Even though I’m speaking with Matthew Grant over the phone his positive energy radiates loud and clear. The timber of his voice and the earnestness comes through. He’s a musician who is truly living his passion and sharing a positive message with others.
His recent single, King For A Day, sparked a social media movement. The hashtag, hailing the same name as the song, has encouraged individuals to record inspirational videos. Messages to let others know what they would do if given the chance to be king for a day. When asked how he feels about the popularity of his single he beams with joy.
“The best way I can describe it is overwhelmed In a good way. The song is so near and dear to my heart. I see videos of children singing my song, and people I don’t even know. It’s really touching.”
Grants inspiration for the song came from experiences he had growing up and what he saw and went through.
“I wanted to make sure I wrote a song right down the middle that didn’t make anyone pick a side, but to show that people can do better. As an adult man I want to do better in general and be a decent human being and to challenge others.”
Recovery is something Mr Grant has experienced first hand. His father battled drug abuse and alcoholism. He handles the topic gracefully.
“I was judgmental towards my dad. I thought why would he act a certain way if he loved me? I realized this had nothing to do with his love towards me, he was in his addiction.”
He and his father, who has now been sober for 13 years, are in a better place than they’ve ever been.
Mr Grant shares this personal part of his life to let others know they aren’t alone if a loved one is struggling.
With a music video in pre-production he continues to plan his next career move. His immediate goal? To get King For A Day into as many hands and ears as possible and spreading the positive message it has.
